Projection: a term used in psychology to describe how we humans transmit our subconscious picture of ourselves onto our surroundings, like a projector. Characteristics that we cannot acknowledge as our own we attribute to others instead. prised of many sub-personalities that frequently form dualities. Often certain of these sub-personalities develop more than others due to the situations we find ourselves in and the value judgments we make. This is fantastic as it gives us each a unique set of skills that we can draw upon throughout our lives. The problem arises when there is an imbalance and these sub-personalities come into conflict within a duality, when one part takes a greater role and are more valued than the other. When sub-personalities are engaged in internal conflict it may lead to antagonism or uneasiness in deal ing with certain other people. This uneasiness is caused when the individual unconsciously projects the characteristics of their own despised sub-personality onto another person or group. This is not beneficial in the long term as the conflict consumes energy. It is an automatic reaction and does give some short term inward comfort from the uneasiness caused by the conflict. When we then speak badly of someone who has a characteristic we cannot abide it is ourselves we are speaking ill of. ”What you say about others says more about you”.
