Christie's Review Of The Year : 1967/1968

THE sales season of October 1967 to July 1968 was an outstanding one for Christie's, not only because of the greatly increased turnover but also because of the variety and interest of the works of art which passed through the salerooms from all parts of the world. The overseas companies in America and Switzerland have expanded.

The Review of the Year only features the most beautiful, rare, important or famous of these works of art – and even though it is considerably longer than in past years, this selection was no easy matter. For every one article illustrated there were hundreds of other lots all of varying degrees of significance – underlining current fashions, reflecting collectors' trends or helping to illuminate some clouded period of art history.

Christie's newly decorated salerooms are open for all those who wish to realise good prices for their works of art, and equally for buyers who wish to bid in a few pounds or in thousands. This book records, not without some pride, the outstanding sales. It outlines some particularly interesting provenances and gives background information on some of the lesser known departments. Yet it should be remembered that it shows only the tip of the iceberg.
