THIS BOOK IS intended for students of social anthropology. It deals with the development and contemporary content of the subject as currently taught in British universities. Social anthropology is taken to be concerned primarily with the analysis of societies of simple technology. These are regarded as comprisin systems and processes that are essentially comparable - those concerned with kindship, politics, economics and religion. Some account is given of the history of ideas in these fields, and the terms in most common use are defined.
