THIS IS A book designed to teach sculpture technique to both the artistically inclined and those who never dared believe they had artistic capabilities. It is the opinion of the author that sculpture is most easily learned by attempting the portrait. Having accomplished the portrait, the transition to full figure is easily accomplished. The book is divided into two parts. The first part guides the student through the production of a generic bust using facial proportions commonly employed by drawing teachers. Having mastered the generic face, the student understands how the photograph of the model varies from the average face. Seeing the difference is the secret to attaining a likeness. The second part demonstrates the creation of a sculpture from photographs. The techniques of measuring are explained but preclude the need for a ruler or for mathematical computations. Students respond positively to this approach when they produce a likeness. Students who have the ability to draw are thrilled to be able to transition to the third dimension.
